You can't manually arrange in your folders!!!! For instance...I had misc. scrapbook sets in one folder...inside that folder, I had them arranged according to color. You can't do that now!!!

I have read several forums about it and lots of people are throwing a fit....read one photography business that needs that feature bad and really is throwing a fit!!!! Microsoft says that people were dumping folders into other folders, overlapping folders and that they were doing away with manual arrange for our own good!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

So they decide what's best for us - right? Maybe we want to dump folders inside of other folders.

You can still have folders inside of folders, but for now the contents of a folder will appear in alphabetical order. It will be a little work, but if you had folders named for the primary color, you could move items into that specific folder. I assume you have the name of the color somewhere in the filename, so you could do a wildcard search for all files with blue* in the filename. Then move those files into the 'blue' folder. Inside "Blue" the files will be in alphabetical order, but they will at least all be blue.

Don't know if this is any help.

Hi NJ

I don't have Windows 7 - but will eventually - if I ever get a new computer. But in the meantime - I have been gathering information - heres some stuff for you to look at. Don't know if it will be helpful or not. I feel bad that you aren't having as much fun with your new computers' operating system as we all hope we all would with a new toy.

We are really lucky that here at the ZOO we have our very own Computer Guru - Miss Patty (soon to be Mrs Patty Very Happy Very Happy )

Introduction
File management is organizing and keeping track of files and folders, helping you stay organized, so information is easily located. A folder is a container for storing programs and files, similar to a folder in a file cabinet. As with a file cabinet, working with poorly managed files is like looking for a needle in a haystack—it is frustrating and time-consuming to search through irrelevant, misnamed, and out-of-date files to find the one you want. Windows allows you to organize folders and files in a file hierarchy, imitating the way you store paper documents in real folders. Just as a file cabinet contains several folders, each containing related documents with dividers grouping related folders together, so the Windows file hierarchy allows you to organize your files in folders, and then place folders in other folders. Windows 7 comes with four libraries: Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos. Libraries (New!) are special folders that catalog folders and files in a central location. A library includes and displays folders that are stored in different locations on your computer, Homegroup, or network.
Using the file management tools, you can save files in folders with appropriate names for easy identification, quickly and easily create new folders so you can reorganize information and delete files and folders that you no longer need. You can also search for a file when you cannot remember where you stored it, create shortcuts to files and folders for quick and easy access, and even compress files and folders to save space. read complete article/book chapter at:

excerpt quoted from website:
Windows 7's built-in libraries are a great way to organize information on your system. Windows 7's libraries provide a powerful addition to Explorer. They simplify file sharing, speed browsing and searching, and improve organization. Libraries are also a fantastic way to group related content regardless of where it's stored - especially if you suck at maintaining a logical folder setup like me.

They could, however, be a little easier to manage. As is so often the case, when something can be done more easily on Windows a developer steps in to make it so.

Enter Win7 Library Tool, a handy, free application which acts as a central management console for your libraries. Just about anything you need to adjust can be done with the Tool - adding additional folders to existing libraries, changing the default save location, changing icons, creating new libraries and deleting unneeded ones, and more.

The Tool also allows you to save entire configuration sets to a file - useful if you're pondering a reformat and want to make sure your library setup survives the procedure. Just save your current set and re-load using the tool and you're good to go!
